Málaga is compact enough to do properly in a day — old town, fortress, museum, beach and all — if you move with intent and eat like a local. Here is the full arc, sunrise to midnight.
Key facts
- The historic centre is flat and walkable; only Gibralfaro requires a climb or a short taxi
- Museums generally close one day a week — check before you commit the morning
- Lunch runs late here (from around 2pm), dinner later (from around 9pm)
- Summer visitors: shift the outdoor blocks earlier and later to dodge the midday heat
7:30am — First light on the seafront
Start on the Muelle Uno promenade as the sun comes up over the port, the Alcazaba glowing pink on its hill behind you. The palm-lined walk toward La Malagueta beach is Málaga at its calmest.
9:00am — Churros con chocolate
Head into the old town for the classic Malagueño breakfast: hot churros dunked in thick chocolate, or a pitufo roll with tomato and olive oil. The cafés around the central streets fill with locals — join them.
