There is no account, and no server holding your data
MASA is a set of static pages. There is no login, no profile and no database of readers. We do not know who you are, we cannot tell one visit from another, and there is nothing on our side to hand over, leak or sell.
Two things are stored, both in your own browser
The site uses your browser’s local storage — a small space that belongs to your device and that we cannot read remotely — for exactly two things:
- Where you are starting from. If you pick a departure city, we keep that choice so the site can work out how far each place is from you. It is a city you chose from a list, not a location we detected: we never ask for location permission and never infer where you are from your IP address.
- Your trip board. The destinations and stories you save, and any notes you add to them.
Both stay on that device. They are not sent to us, they are not backed up anywhere, and they will not appear on your phone if you saved them on a laptop. Clearing them on the trip board, or clearing your browser data, removes them permanently — there is no copy to restore from.
Links that take you to a company we may be paid by
Some recommendations carry a button — “Check rates”, “See tours” — that takes you to a booking site such as Booking.com or GetYourGuide. If you book after following one, that company pays us a commission. It costs you nothing extra, and it never decides what we recommend: our disclosure explains how those decisions are made. Paid links are marked as such beside the button.
What matters for your privacy is the same either way: once you follow that link you are on their site, under their privacy policy, not ours. Those companies do set cookies, and they use them to remember that the visit came from us. We do not receive your booking, your name, your dates or your payment details — only, at most, a count of how many bookings a page led to. If you would rather not be tracked by them, do not follow the link; the name of the hotel or the tour is written out on the page so you can search for it yourself.
What we do not do
- No analytics. We do not measure page views, sessions or clicks.
- No advertising network. We show no ads, and we set no cookies of our own — for advertising or anything else.
- No fingerprinting, no session recording, no heat maps.
- No email address is collected anywhere unless you type one into a form and send it.
This page is built from the site’s own settings rather than written by hand, so it changes in the same release as the thing it describes. If we ever add advertising it will say so here, and it will say what is collected and how to opt out.
What other people see
Photographs are served from the image hosts named in our disclosure (Unsplash and Pexels), and web fonts from Google Fonts. Requesting a file from any host tells that host your IP address and browser — this is how the web works, and it is true of every site that loads an image it does not host itself. We do not send them anything about you beyond that request.
Our web server keeps standard access logs, as web servers do. They are used to keep the site running and are not connected to anything else.
Children
MASA is a travel magazine written for adults planning trips. We do not knowingly collect anything from anyone, of any age, because we do not collect anything.
