The sea stack where Aphrodite is said to have risen from the foam sits on a sweeping pebble beach on the coast road east of town, roughly half an hour by car towards Limassol.

West of Paphos the road runs out and the Akamas begins: a protected peninsula of gorges, juniper scrub and empty coves, one of the last undeveloped stretches of coast in the south.
